'Daddy' brings dementia to life on stage at UPSNA
LUCKNOW, July 26 -- A play Daddy, portraying society through the eyes of a person living with dementia, was staged on Friday at the Sant Gadgeji Maharaj Auditorium of the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi. Originally written in French by playwright Florian Zeller as Le Pere, the play was adapted into Hindi by renowned theatre artists Suryamohan Kulshreshtha and Shivangi Nigam.
The play was also directed by Kulshreshtha. It was staged by Darpan Theatre group as part of the birth centenary year celebrations of its founder Prof Satyamurty. The play revolves around a daddy (played by veteran actor Anil Rastogi) - a dementia patient and his daughter Anu (Shalini Vijay).
The play vividly captured the confusion and inner turmoil of the father, who is gradually losing his memory. This was creatively depicted through a stage set made of curtains painted with household objects that disappeared one by one-mirroring the fading fragments of his memory.
