New Delhi, April 3 -- Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary MA Baby, in an interview with HT, expressed confidence that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would win the upcoming Kerala assembly polls, claimed Congress's economic policies paved way for BJP's growth and spoke about the Left's continued struggle against the Sangh Parivar. Edited excerpts: In reality, for the first time since 1977, the CPI(M) is on the brink of having a CPI(M)-led LDF government in Kerala consecutively for a third term. The Pinarayi government has eradicated absolute poverty statewide-the only one to do so. Our welfare measures and top human development rankings are even acknowledged by the NITI Aayog. Infrastructure development worth Rs.1-lakh crore in education, health, roads, bridges, ports, airports, IT hubs, inland waterways etc., have been implemented or being completed. Intellectuals like Amartya Sen and Romila Thapar note no communal riots or bloodshed under the LDF. Your prediction of an LDF defeat cannot be taken seriously. Rahul calling the CPI(M), the B team of the BJP, is a behaviour unbecoming of the LoP. With hundreds of top-level ex-Congress leaders in leading positions of the BJP, including in poll-bound Assam, a friend of mine described the Congress as a feeder organisation of the BJP. The Congress' economic policies paved the way for the BJP's growth. The only dispute between the Congress and BJP is which one is the A team and B team as far as anti-people economic policies are concerned. In spite of all these, the Congress can and should contribute in the fight against neo-fascistic trends of the Union government. The LDF administration never compromised with the BJP and we have been carrying out a protracted struggle - political, economic, ideological, cultural and organisational - against the Sangh Parivar and RSS. It is also true that the BJP is making some sporadic advantages. The soft Hindutva approach of Congress is also responsible for this. Remember, former KPCC (Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Chief ) K Sudhakaran had publicly stated that he had organised protection for the RSS to hold their physical training camps. Those who have not studied the evolution of civilisation and human society seriously say the Left ideology is unsuitable for India. Yet history shows egalitarian and harmonious societies, like Kerala's Onam festival or Ayya Vaikunda Swami's pre-Marx 'Samathwa Samajam' (Society of Equals). This was a few years before Karl Marx and Frederick Engels joined 'The League of the Just', which subsequently merged with the Communist League. The RSS, however, was shaped by the militarist structure inspired by BS Moonje's meetings with European fascists, including Mussolini. So, the neo-fascism of RSS was influenced and shaped by European fascists. The reason for the rise of Naxalism is the unmitigated poverty and inequality in Indian society and the exploitation and oppression of rural poor and Adivasis. The economic and social policies pursued by ruling class parties like the Congress and BJP provide the background for the emergence of Naxalites of various hues. The CPI(M) never reconciled with 'Left-wing Communism', which would be repudiated by every communist adhering to Marxism-Leninism. In West Bengal, our comrades are working among common people. We get very good responses from the toiling masses and the students. We will surely regain our lost influence in West Bengal. We are confident about our bright future in West Bengal....
