LUCKNOW, Dec. 25 -- Leader of Opposition in the legislative Assembly and Samajwadi Party leader Mata Prasad Pandey on Wednesday slammed the UP government over the supplementary budget. "A provision of over Rs 24,000 crore has been made in the supplementary budget, but the state government has failed to release funds to government departments for development and welfare projects from the annual budget passed in February," he said during the winter session. Pandey urged the chief minister to review the budget periodically so that the government is able to know in a timely manner how much budget is available with each department. Pandey slammed the BJP government, alleging that it wants to spend more money on publicity and propaganda, instead of development works while the government has received approximately 30% less revenue compared to the estimates made in the original budget. He also alleged that the BJP government has weakened institutions. "The BJP government has cut compensation for natural calamities. Due to budget constraints, people do not receive timely assistance," he claimed. htc...
