'Attack was planned, accused conducted recce for 3 days'
LUCKNOW, July 11 -- The two men, who entered the house of a senior government official posing as air conditioner servicemen and slit the throat of his wife after looting her gold jewellery in Indira Nagar area on Wednesday, had been planning the crime for over a week before they executed it. The victim, Shashi Pandey, sustained grievous injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon and underwent treatment at a private hospital.
"For the last three days, someone was ringing the bell around 1:30pm. But when the door would be opened, no one would be there. This happened for three consecutive days, after which we thought it were children in the neighborhood playing pranks," said the victim's nephew Ashutosh.
But the victim's husband, Harish Pandey, an undersecretary in the department of science and technology, said the incident seemed well planned as the men were coming and checking who was opening the door when they rang in the afternoon.
ACP (Ghazipur) Anindya Vikram Singh said that over 80 CCTV cameras around the area have been scanned and a group of 4-5 mysterious men were found to be loitering around. "They will be zeroed in and nabbed," he said.
The attackers arrived claiming they were there to service the air conditioner in response to a complaint. When Shashi Pandey informed them that no such complaint had been made and turned to shut the door, one of them forced his way in, grabbed her by the neck, and slammed her head against the wall.
The attackers slit her throat with a sharp-edged weapon and looted her gold chain and earrings.
When she resisted, they allegedly tore her earlobes and stabbed her hand to remove her ring. The assailants fled immediately after, said police.
The crime occurred just 100 metres from a local police outpost.
Harish Pandey, the victim's husband, expressed anger over the lack of police presence and claimed the area is plagued by open drug and alcohol abuse....
