New Delhi, Nov. 17 -- Around 46% of winners in the recently concluded Bihar assembly polls are 55 years old or above, an eight percentage point increase from 2020, when 38% of all 243 MLAs were 55 or more, according to an analysis by PRS Legislative Research. The analysis report also said that 58% of new assembly members are legislators who got re-elected in the two-phased assembly elections, results of which were announced on November 14. The NDA swept the assembly polls, winning 202 of the 243 seats in Bihar while the Grand Alliance managed just 35 seats. The election results show significant demographic and professional shifts. The PRS analysis shows an ageing trend, with the share of elected members aged 55 or above rising steadily, from 38% in 2020, to 46% this year. Five years ago, 33% of MLAs were in the 56-70 age bracket and only 5% were above 70. Of the 29 women elected this year, 13 are between 25 and 39, and nine are between 40 and 54.
