MEERUT, Aug. 1 -- "I think we have got justice," wrote Rajni Singh, wife of police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, in a social media post after a Bulandshahr court on Wednesday convicted all 38 accused in the 2018 Syana violence case that led to her husband's death. Inspector Singh was killed on December 3, 2018, during mob violence in Syana, Bulandshahr, following reports of alleged cow slaughter. The incident triggered widespread outrage and raised serious concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel in the state. While no family member was present in the courtroom, Singh's elder son, Shreyapratap Singh Rathore, said they had full faith in the judicial process. "Right from the beginning, the police department extended full cooperation in the investigation. The system worked with sincerity, and that's why this verdict has come within six and a half years," he told Hindustan Times. "We are hopeful that the court will now pronounce the strictest possible punishment for the culprits on August 1." The court found five of the accused guilty under IPC section 302 (murder).
