Srinagar, Jan. 11 -- As many as seven hotels and homestays operating without registration in Srinagar were fined, police officials said on Saturday. The action comes as tourism is slowly recovering in the Valley following December snowfall. A spokesperson said the Srinagar police, in coordination with the tourist police station, conducted a verification drive across the city and came across such establishments. "Additionally, preventive action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhitashall be initiated against the owners of all such establishments," said the spokesperson. The drive comes weeks after police had raided various hotels across the Valley and filed cases for violation of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Some of the hotels had not filed the mandatory Form C online, which is required for reporting foreign nationals.
