JAMMU, Jan. 17 -- Himachal Pradesh has recorded its first suspected swine flu death of the year with a 16-month-old girl from Una district succumbing to the disease at a government hospital in Chandigarh.

According to sources in the health department, the child died due to pandemic at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

So far, Himachal has recorded eight cases of swine flu this year.

Majority of cases have been reported in Kangra, the biggest district of the state in terms of population. One case each has been reported in Solan and Una.

According to health department data, the state recorded seven cases of swine flu in 2017 wherein two people died of influenza.
