Two MLAs accuse NC govt of regional bias, stage walkout
Jammu, Feb. 4 -- Accusing the NC government of discrimination against the Jammu region over allocation of funds for flood relief works, two BJP MLAs staged a walkout from the legislative assembly here on Tuesday.
However, deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary outrightly denied the accusations.
Amid heated arguments BJP MLAs Rajiv Jasrotia and Pawan Gupta staged a walkout from the House. During question hour, Jasrotia had sought details of funds released by the Centre for flood restoration works and their district-wise distribution and utilisation.
The deputy CM replied that no funds had been released by the Centre so far in the current financial year 2025-26 for flood restoration works. He added that Rs 289.39 crore had been released under the SDRF and Rs 100 crore under the UT Capex Budget for flood relief measures (Rs 5 crore per district). The Jal Shakti Department also received funds under ongoing flood management projects.
Choudhary said, based on a report of an inter-ministerial central team, the Centre has allocated Rs 1,431 crore under the SASCI scheme for J&K, which would be released once detailed proposals for flood restoration were received. Jasrotia alleged that the deputy minister had misled the House. The BJP MLA claimed that the Centre had given Rs 212 crore as immediate relief. "Jammu, which bore the maximum brunt of floods, was not given adequate funds while Kashmir, was given more funds," said Jasrotia. BJP MLA Pawan Gupta also levelled similar charges against the NC government. Though deputy CM dismissed the allegations and reminded the House that it was CM Omar Abdullah, who resumed Darbar Move practice that was stopped by BJP in 2021, both MLAs staged a walkout....
