India, July 20 -- For a long time, there had been a thrust on buying homes and home ownership was seen as the most credible option. "Apna Ghar Toh Apna Hi Hota Hai" (there is nothing like your own home) was the idea propagated and sold to the common man. Until 5 July, 2019 when for the first time in the Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman promised to take up reforms in the rental sector. After all, a strong rental policy can pave the way for every one to have a roof above one's head- something that will complement the vision of 'Housing for All' by 2022. Soon after the Budget, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs drafted a 'Model Tenancy Act', 2019 (MTA) which has laid down certain new policies to protect both landlords and tenants. The new Model Tenancy Act 2019 will hopefully to lay road map for a balanced National Rental Housing policy....
