Haldwani, March 6 -- Forest officials in Ramnagar have sent DNA samples of a captured tiger to the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in Dehradun to determine whether it was the same animal that killed two women in the area within 15 days last month. Officials said a large tiger suspected to be involved in the attacks in the Fatehpur forest range was captured by the state forest department late on Tuesday night and later shifted to the Dhela Rescue Centre. Divisional forest officer of the Ramnagar forest division, Dhruv Singh Martolia, said forest teams had been tracking the tiger in the forest area since February 25. "We had set up several cages and deployed two teams to search for the tiger, led by senior veterinarian Dushyant Sharma," Martolia said. He said the tiger was spotted near the location where the second woman was killed. "The movement of the tiger was noticed near a platform erected by the forest department around 10 pm on Tuesday. The animal appeared about 30 metres away, after which Sharma fired a tranquiliser dart. The tiger ran a short distance before collapsing in the bushes about 20 metres away," he said.
