Three arrested for hurting religious sentiments in Doda
JAMMU, Dec. 19 -- Police have arrested three men, who allegedly committed a sacrilegious act in Doda district's Sersi village during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, said officials.
The incident had sparked public outrage and caused communal tension in the area.
However, police acted swiftly and arrested the three accused, said officials.
An information was received at police station Doda regarding the alleged slaughter of a cow-like animal by certain persons and the transportation of beef towards Sersi for the purpose of illegal sale, said an official spokesperson.
The accused arrested were identified as Farooq Ahmed of Sersi Dhalwa, Mohammad Shafi of Verinag Kapran in Anantnag, Mohammad Yaseen and Top Sersi, in Doda district.
"The accused persons, along with some other unidentified individuals, allegedly committed the sacrilegious act with criminal intent, which had the potential to hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community and disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the area," he added.
Acting promptly, a police party raided the spot and arrested all three accused persons. "The recovered beef was seized as part of the investigation," he said
Accordingly, FIR No. 275/2025 under Sections 299 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at police station Doda.
Further investigation is underway, and efforts are on to identify and apprehend other persons involved, he said....
