Shah, Mamata in war of words on infiltration
Kolkata, Dec. 31 -- Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal over infiltration, alleging that the demography of the state was changing dangerously and asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party will win a two-thirds majority in next year's assembly polls.
Hours later, chief minister Mamata Banerjee hit back, blaming the Centre for terrorism and infiltration and demanding Shah's resignation over the special intensive revision of voter rolls. Union home minister Amit Shah, who is visiting the state after a trip to Assam, launched a scathing attack on West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of abetting the infiltration of Bangladeshis, which, according to Shah, has "dangerously altered" the state's demography over the past few years.
The elections for the 294-seat assembly in the state are due early next year.
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Shah said people of West Bengal were anxious over infiltration, which the BJP would end after coming to power in the state with a "two-thirds majority in 2026".
Banerjee was quick to hit back. She described the Union home minister as 'Dushasan' without naming him, and demanded his resignation, accusing him of failing to prevent subversive activities in the country....
