Rain, snow likely in Kashmir from Jan 16, says MeT
Srinagar, Jan. 13 -- As most places in Kashmir recorded improvement in the temperature, Jammu city was today colder than Srinagar. Pulwama in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley.
MeT office has predicted a mild Western Disturbance within next 4-5 days that could bring rain and snowfall in upper reaches of Kashmir.
Valley is yet to receive heavy snowfall in the plains, including Srinagar though it snowed in upper reaches and tourists resorts of Sonmarg and Gulmarg in the last week of December.
As per MeT data, the maximum temperature in Jammu City on Monday was 9.6degC, while it was 12.4degC in Srinagar, 13.9degC in Qazigund, 10.8degC in Pahalgam, 10.7degC in Kupwara and 11.5degC in Kokernag.
Srinagar recorded -2.6degC during intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Gulmarg recorded -3.4degC. Pulwama in south Kashmir was the coldest place in Kashmir as mercury dropped to -6.5 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile MeT has predicted mainly dry weather with cloudy towards 15 evening for next three days.
"From January 16-17 there will be generally cloudy weather with light rain/snowat isolated to scattered higher reaches of Kashmir Division."
The MeT has said that there could be gradual rise in minimum temperature at many places.
"There will be moderate fog over plains of Jammu division with dense fog at isolated places likely to continue during next five days."...
