Police registers case against soldier over viral video on Pahalgam attack
Srinagar, May 15 -- J&K Police on Wednesday registered a case against missing army soldier Mushtaq Sofi after his purported video alleging the central government of the Pahalgam attack went viral. "The missing report of Army Sepoy Dlhair Mushtaq Sofi, sepoy of 29RR, lodged on March 11, 2025, has been converted into an FIR after a video showing him surfaced on social media," a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the video was verified by his father and uncle and prompted the registration of FIR under relevant sections of the BNS.
"Preliminary enquiry also revealed the individual was involved in online gambling and had debts exceeding Rs.10 lakh," the spokesperson said, adding that investigation has been initiated. On Tuesday, the government's press information bureau had done a fact check of his video on X handle. "A video of an Indian Army soldier accusing the Centre for the Pahalgam attack is going viral on social media. #PIBFactCheck, The soldier seen in the video is a deserter and has not been present at his duty since March 2025, nor has he been in contact with his family," it said. htc...
