Srinagar, May 15 -- J&K Police on Wednesday registered a case against missing army soldier Mushtaq Sofi after his purported video alleging the central government of the Pahalgam attack went viral. "The missing report of Army Sepoy Dlhair Mushtaq Sofi, sepoy of 29RR, lodged on March 11, 2025, has been converted into an FIR after a video showing him surfaced on social media," a police spokesperson said. The spokesperson said the video was verified by his father and uncle and prompted the registration of FIR under relevant sections of the BNS. "Preliminary enquiry also revealed the individual was involved in online gambling and had debts exceeding Rs.10 lakh," the spokesperson said, adding that investigation has been initiated. On Tuesday, the government's press information bureau had done a fact check of his video on X handle.
