India, April 19 -- The agrarian distress is reflected in protracted peasant protests across Punjab. Farm unions block highways and lay siege to rail tracks and toll plazas, doing more harm than good. Since February last year, a series of talks between farmer leaders protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders with Haryana and ministers from Punjab and Centre have been inconclusive. Police evicted the protesters on March 19 when the last round of talks was held, however the farm bodies continue with symbolic protests. The year-long protest by farmers on the Delhi borders of Singhu and Tikri in 2020 forced the BJP-led Centre to retract the three farm laws but that has not solved the problem....
