PDP chief accuses NC of ignoring projects in south Kashmir
Srinagar, Sept. 10 -- A day after J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah alleged that the AIIMS location in Awantipora was a politically motivated decision by the then government, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti accused the ruling National Conference (NC) of ignoring south Kashmir.
Mufti said that the PDP Government led by Mufti Muhammad Sayeed had worked for the development of south Kashmir. "Under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's government, south Kashmir saw major developments, including the establishment of the Islamic University of Science and Technology, (Kashmir) University Campus, a medical college & AIIMS all within a short span," she said on X in response to Omar's assertion.
The construction of the Institute, which started in 2019, had been behind schedule as there were some objections related to security by the army.
CM Abdullah on Monday had visited the under construction site of AIIMS at Awantipora in south Kashmir stating that the decision to establish the institute there was based on political considerations.
"Unfortunately the site was chosen on the basis of politics and it was never checked whether this location was actually feasible," he had told reporters.
Mufti accused the ruling party NC of ignoring South Kashmir. "In contrast, despite decades in power, NC can't point to a single comparable project in this region," she said. "While NC often chose flood-prone sites to benefit their own people the PDP selected locations based on public interest not political favoritism," she stated....
