PDP, NC trade barbs over Farooq's statement
Srinagar, May 4 -- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC) on Saturday traded barbs over the NC president Farooq Abdullah's statement about locals' involvement in the Pahalgam attack.
PDP chief and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti criticised Farooq for the remarks.
In a post on microblogging platform X, Mehbooba expressed disapproval, calling The statement "deeply disturbing and regrettable".
"Farooq sahab's statement implicating Kashmiris in the Pahalgam terror attack is deeply disturbing & regrettable. As a senior leader, that too as a Kashmiri, his statement risks fuelling divisive narratives, providing ammunition to certain media channels to further stereotype & stigmatise Kashmiris & Muslims," Mehbooba said in the X post.
The NC, however, blamed the PDP chief for twisting facts about NC president's remarks.
"It is shocking that someone who has served as CM would stoop this low. Farooq never mentioned Kashmiris or locals. At a time when we are trying to protect Kashmiris across India, it is shameful to misrepresent his (Farooq's) words. Mehbooba should apologise and delete the post unless she can prove he said what she claims," NC chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said....
