Dharamshala, Oct. 18 -- Himachal Pradesh government has formed a panel of officers to suggest scientific measures for dumping of muck in the state. The governor constituted the sub-committee to look into the issue keeping in view the recent disasters in the state. Muck disposal has been under debate in the hill-state and is considered one of the factors for damages during the monsoon rainfall. The sub-committee, will be headed by secretary, public works department (PWD) and its members include director, rural development; director, urban development; engineer-in-chief (HPPWD); engineer-in-chief (Jal Shakti Vibhag) among others. Disasters have become a regular affair during monsoon season in Himachal during recent years causing damage to life and property across the state. This year as well, excessive rains wreaked havoc in the hill state, which suffered losses to the tune of thousands of crores. Last month, PWD minister Vikramaditya Singh had said that one major issue is dumping of muck during road cutting. In many cases, this muck is being dumped illegally, which has been a major contributing factor to disasters.
