NIA court convicts three for providing shelter to terrorists
Srinagar, Jan. 1 -- A special NIA court in Pulwama convicted three persons for providing shelter and support to terrorists of a banned organisation
The conviction of three was in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, said officials.
Police said that the conviction was recorded by the special court designated under the NIA Act, Pulwama, in connection with FIR registered at Pulwama police station under sections 307 IPC, 7/27 Arms Act and Sections 16, 18, 19, 20, 38 & 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
"The accused were found guilty of providing shelter and support to terrorists of a banned organisation. Mehraj Ud Din Mir was convicted under Sections 19 & 39 of the UAPA and sentenced to three years simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs.10,000 under Section 19 and three years and 10 months imprisonment under Section 39, with sentences to run concurrently, while Firdous Ahmad Bhat and Irshad Ahmad Malik were convicted under Section 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and sentenced to 3 years and 10 months imprisonment each. The period alreadyspent in custody shall be set off," the spokesman said, adding that the conviction is the result of a professional investigation and effective prosecution by Jammu and Kashmir Police....
