NC hopeful of unanimity from opposition on statehood issue
Srinagar, June 24 -- National Conference (NC) on Monday reiterated its hope of unanimity among the opposition parties on the issue of J&K's statehood.
Legislator and NC chief spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said that despite odds among the policial parties, every party believes that statehood is right of people. "I say this with utmost responsibility while the opposition and we may often be at odds, take jabs at one another, and remain politically competitive, I firmly believe that when it comes to the question of statehood, there is absolute unanimity. Whether it's BJP, PDP, PC, or any other party, all agree that statehood is our legitimate right and must be restored without any further delay," Sadiq wrote on X.
He further said that the real question is who is creating this atmosphere of confusion? The answer is clear: It is those who benefit from the dual power structure, those who thrive in the shadows of uncertainty and chaos. "These are the very elements who deliberately float such misleading narratives not just to undermine the sentiments of the people, but also to cast aspersions on the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister, the home minister, and the sanctity of Parliament itself where it was promised." Tanvir Sadiq, who is close to J&K chief minister, said that such people are doing this solely to create confusion. "But remember, if they are not faithful to the leadership of this country and the promises made, how can they ever be the well wishers of Jammu and Kashmir?"
On Saturday, NC chief Farooq Abdullah had said that his party would move the Supreme Court if there is an inordinate delay in the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
"Once statehood comes all the powers of the elected government will be restored. I am hopeful for the restoration," Abdullah told reporters.."If the statehood is delayed then we will have no option but to move to the Supreme Court," he said.
However, Sajjad Lone and Awami Ithead Party led by Baramulla MP took a dig at NC. "In utter wonderment whether it serves any purpose for Kashmiris to approach the Supreme Court of India. Since 1947, I can't recall any single judgement which the Kashmiris could recall as path-breaking. Or contrary to the narrative. Kashmir has seen rigging, violence, human rights violations, PSAs, disappearances. And one name conspicuously absent is the Supreme Court. Typically Supreme Court intervention could have been suo moto, such was the gravity of events. Law was not even ornamentally visible for a decade," Sajjad Lone wrote on X in a long post.
He said that after the abrogation of Article 370 when we all rushed to Supreme Court. The court endorsed the Union government version and literally closed the legal doors on 370 for all times to come. "The SC simply decided to not answer question, thereby evading a challenge to federalism, saving other states from the sword of relegation. And Kashmir. Well Kashmir continues to be a UT. So now Farooq sahib and CM sahib want to go to court. I suspect another fixed match. The court has not delivered in the past. Why on earth would it deliver now. Is it yet another trap to end the statehood dreams in the near future through legal intervention."
AIP senior leader Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad said that NC president's recent announcement is just to buy time and blamed ruling party for playing double game..."Now saying that you will go to the Supreme Court means only one thing - buying time and avoiding political confrontation with BJP," he said. "But what is the role of a political party like NC, which had a mass mandate and promised to fight politically? You are now reducing that mandate to legal paperwork," he remarked, accusing Farooq and his party of playing a double game to mislead the people once again....
