Shimla, July 18 -- The police booked eight Congress leaders, including Vikram Singh Negi, son of revenue and horticulture minister Jagat Singh Negi, for allegedly unlawful assembly and burning the effigy of Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur at Reckong Peo in Kinnaur on July 13. The case was registered on complaint of Yaswant Singh Negi, president of BJP unit of Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh against Vikram Singh Negi, Nirmal Chand, Dr Surya Boras, Kulwant Negi, Man Chand Negi, Ram Mohan, Jai Kishan, and Rakesh Kumar-all residents of the Kalpa area. Police registered a case under Sections 189 (2) (unlawful assembly) and Section 292 (punishment for public nuisance in cases not explicitly covered by other provisions of the Sanhita) of BNS, in Reckong Peo police station on Wednesday. BJP state media in-charge Karan Nanda said, "The incident occurred at the main chowk of Reckong Peo, where a group of Congress workers allegedly gathered without permission, raised anti-Jai Ram slogans, and publicly set his effigy ablaze."...
