Mandatory car bins: HP to launch app for issuing challans
Shimla, April 30 -- As Himachal government's directive to install car bins in vehicles came into force on April 29, the government set to launch a mobile application to issue challans, officials said, adding that 40 officers from 13 departments have been authorised to take action.
The state government has made installing car bins mandatory in the vehicles to check littering, and directions have already been issued to all taxi operators, public transport and other private vehicles.
"The government has imposed fine of Rs.1,500 for littering of bio-degradable materials and Rs.10,000 for non-installation of garbage bins in taxis/vehicles," said environment, science and technology director DC Rana.
The regional transport officer (RTO) and motor vehicle inspector (MVI) have been directed to register the taxis/transport vehicles only after installation of bins.
Rana added, "The state government is going to launch a mobile app for this. With the help of this app, departments will not have any problem in challaning and there will be no need for challan book."
Every year, more than 1.5 crore tourists visit Himachal Pradesh and most of them travel in taxis, tempos or luxury buses. "The effort is to sensitise people about not littering in the state, especially tourist places," added Rana.
Transporters from other states driving commercial vehicles into Himachal will have to install garbage bins as well. The fine will be collected from the taxi driver and not from the tourist travelling in it, the officials said....
