Srinagar, April 17 -- High speed dusty winds affected life in parts of Kashmir on Thursday even as J&K meteorological centre said a western disturbance will hit the Union Territory from Friday, bringing more rains. The weather turned cloudy in the valley during afternoon. gusty winds damaged old tin roofs, loose glass windows and electric lines in various parts, including in summer capital Srinagar, with very light rains for a brief period. The Shikaras or luxury boats also faced tough time on the open expanse of Dal Lake. "The high speed winds blew away the roofs of many Shikaras on Dal Lake promoting the Shikara owners to row towards safe shores," said M Omar, a Dal Lake resident. Srinagar recorded 0.3 mm rain while the northern resort of Gulmarg witnessed 0.8 mm rain. MeT director, Mukhtar Ahmad, said a thunderstorm affected many places of north and central Kashmir and few places of south Kashmir and Jammu division with gusty winds going at 40-50 Km/h. "Stay away from electric poles, old trees and loose structures, and suspend boating/Shikara riding in all water bodies till improvement of weather towards evening," he said in an advisory. The MeT has predicted an incoming western disturbance -moisture laden winds blowing from Mediterranean - toaffect J&K for three days from Friday. " From April 17 to 19, the weather will be cloudy with intermittent few spells of light rain/thundershower at many places towards morning & late evening hours with possibility of gusty winds (40-50 Kmph) and hailstorm at few places," Ahmad said. He said that April 20-24 will be generally dry with a brief spell of light rain/thundershower with gusty winds at few places towards afternoon on April 25-26. Independent weather spotter, Faizan Arif said that there is possibility of thundershowers in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday especially in Kashmir region.
