Jammu, Sept. 28 -- Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) chief executive councillor and BJP leader Tashi Gyalson has written to Ladakh lieutenant governor Kavinder Gupta, demanding a thorough, independent and impartial judicial inquiry into the recent violence in Leh. He condemned the deaths of four young people during the protests, calling it "the darkest day in history." Gyalson urged the LG to ensure transparency and accountability in the probe. "Justice must be delivered in a fair, transparent, and timely manner, ensuring accountability while safeguarding the rights of all citizens and restoring public confidence. All arrests related to the incident should be carefully reviewed to avoid harassment of innocent people," he said, demanding immediate release of those wrongly implicated. "Innocent people had come for a peaceful protest. We don't know what kind of mobilisation happened, but the violence started suddenly. Four people died and many were injured." He flagged "excessive use of force" and called for accountability from both police and protesters. On the hunger strike initiated by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, Gyalson said it was peaceful, but a narrative questioning the government's seriousness had circulated, leading to "provocative statements" by some. The BJP leaders also appealed for adequate compensation, comprehensive support, and necessary assistance for the families of the dead and injured. "Relief, support, and justice must be provided to all affected so that public trust is restored and the well-being and future of youth and community safeguarded," he added....
