Kumaon land fraud coordination panel orders registration of FIRs in 29 cases
Haldwani, May 14 -- The Land Fraud Coordination Committee of Kumaon division has directed that FIRs be filed in 29 cases of land fraud following a high-level review meeting held at the Circuit House in Kathgodam, Nainital, on Tuesday, officials aware of the matter said on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat, who also heads the committee.
According to officials aware of the developments, 86 land-related cases were presented during the meeting. Of these, irregularities were confirmed in 29 cases from Nainital and US Nagar districts.
Directions have been issued to file police cases at the police stations concerned. Show-cause notices have also been served to government officials involved in document tampering or incorrect reporting, they added.
Officials said one case discussed involved the use of fake Aadhaar cards created in the names of two deceased individuals, whose names still appeared in the land records. The land was fraudulently registered with the help of these IDs, reportedly with the collusion of a former village head and a local official. The commissioner ordered that an FIR be filed in the case, they added.
In another case, a property dealer and a patwari allegedly conspired to misrepresent a piece of land belonging to an auto driver as being adjacent to a highway and proceeded with the registration. However, mutation was halted after the landowner filed a complaint, officials said.
In yet another case, a man was found to have sold previously transacted land to 18 different individuals in the Okhalkanda block, cheating them of approximately Rs.1.80 crore, officials said .
Commissioner Rawat emphasised the need for strict action. "86 land-related cases were presented during the meeting. Of these, irregularities were found in 29 cases from Nainital and US Nagar districts. Many employees have been found complicit with fraudsters. Show-cause notices will be issued to those who submitted incorrect reports," he said....
