Kashmir sees 44% rain shortfall in last 3 months
Srinagar, Dec. 26 -- Even after an extended light to moderate spell of snowfall and rains in Kashmir early this week, the deficit in precipitation still persists with around 44% less rains than normal in the past three months, the J&K meteorological centre in Srinagar said on Thursday.
The MeT data, released on Thursday, revealed that the average seasonal precipitation from the beginning of October to December 25 in the Himalayan valley has been recorded at 57.89 mm against a normal of 103 mm. "Seasonal precipitation since October 1, 2025 remained at a deficit of 44% in Kashmir division in a departure from normal while the Jammu division received almost normal precipitation with just 9% less than normal," said an official on MeT.
During the three months Jammu received an average rainfall of 93 mm against the normal of 103 mm, the data revealed. Kashmir valley, has witnessed prolonged dry weather conditions mostly for the past three months causing the rivers to dry up and prompting dozens of incidents of forest fires, experts said.
