Jammu, Nov. 22 -- Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, on Friday, administered the oath to newly elected MLAs of Nagrotaand Budgam assembly constituency. Both MLAs-Devyani Rana of the BJP from Nagrota and Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Budgam-had won the bypolls held on November 11. The swearing in ceremony happened at 11 am at the legislative secretariat in Jammu. Rana, who wore traditional Dogra turban, took oath in Dogri language, while Mehdi took oath in Urdu. Rana retained the Nagrota seat after she defeating National Panthers Party (JKNPP) candidate Harsh Dev Singh with a margin of 24,647 votes. Meanwhile, Aga Muntazir Mehdi of the PDP won the Budgam seat by defeating NC candidate and his uncle Aga Mehmood by a margin of 4,478 votes. With this, the strength of the legislative assembly has now reached 90. BJP has now 29 MLAs and PDPs strength has now gone up to four. "I am grateful to the voters of the Nagrota constituency. Voters blessed my father, Devender Singh Rana, in 2024 and continued to do so for me, too," Rana said. The BJP had won the seat in the 2024 assembly polls.
