Jai Ram meets PM, pushes for area-specific relief package
Shimla, July 29 -- Former chief minister and leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and requested relief package for rehabilitation and reconstruction of disaster affected areas in Himachal. He has also requested area specific relief package.
In a statement, the former chief minister said, "Prime Minister assured all possible support in reconstruction and rehabilitation in the disaster affected areas."
Jai Ram who represents Seraj constituency, said, "Due to this disaster, the state has suffered a loss of more than Rs.1,200 crore. In which a loss of more than Rs.1,000 crore has been incurred in Seraj constituency alone. More than 500 houses were completely washed away and 1000 houses were damaged which were not fit for living. Along with this, Nachan, Karsog and Dharampur have also suffered heavy losses. Syathi village in Dharampur was completely razed to the ground and people are spending nights in the open. Therefore, a request has also been made to provide 'area specific' relief package for rehabilitation and reconstruction."
"We told the PM that in this disaster, not only people's houses but also their lands were washed away and now they do not even have space to build a house. In such a situation, concessions should be given in the Forest Conservation Act to give them land so that the homeless people can be resettled in safe places," said Jai Ram....
