Ahmedabad, Aug. 1 -- Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the Pahalgam terror attack has affected tourism, however, lakhs of people had already visited Kashmir for pilgrimages after the incident. Abdullah was on a two-day visit to Gujarat from Wednesday to promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. In one of the worst terror strikes in Jammu and Kashmir in recent history, 26 tourists were killed at Pahalgam on April 22 this year. The victims included people from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Among them were Shailesh Kalthia from Surat, and the father-son duo from Bhavnagar Yatish Parmar and Smit Parmar. The attack dealt a blow to Kashmir's tourism economy. Speaking to reporters on Thursday on the second day of his visit to Gujarat, Abdullah said, "I am not denying that the Pahalgam terror attack has not affected our tourism industry. It happened in the beginning of the peak season and everyone left the state overnight after the attack, so there was impact.the number of daily flights to Srinagar airport that were around 50-55 came down to 15 after the attack. Presently it has reached around 30-35 flights and we are hopeful that the tourist inflow will increase in coming days." He was in Gujarat as part of the tourism promotion event organised by the Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK), the apex body of tour operators of Kashmir. He said that a lot of tourists visit J&K from Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal. "Let me tell you that Kashmir is not empty, and we have not come here in despair. We just want more people to visit Jammu and Kashmir," he said....
