Ignoring MLAs' calls a 'serious issue': Speaker
Shimla, Feb. 18 -- Taking note of bureaucrats allegedly ignoring phone calls from elected representatives, assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Tuesday termed the matter a "serious issue" and sought a written list of defiant officers for further action.
The matter was raised by Gagret Congress MLA Rakesh Kalia, who slammed senior officials for failing to attend calls from legislators seeking to address public grievances.
Kalia argued that the government should withdraw the phone allowance provided to such officers, as they routinely fail to perform the basic duty of communicating with public representatives. "This is serious. Not taking calls from MLAs is a grave matter," Pathania said, directing Kalia to submit the names of the officers concerned to the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat.
Kalia warned that if this indifferent attitude persists, he would be forced to stage a dharna with supporters. Urging CM Sukhu to intervene, the MLA asked the government to pull up bureaucracy to ensure public issues do not go unheard...
