Shimla, June 13 -- Estimates of apple boxes will not be released this year as such a move could adversely impact market dynamics and lead to financial losses for orchardists, Himachal revenue and horticulture minister Jagat Singh Negi said on Thursday, adding that the numbers will be released next year. The minister held a meeting with stakeholders to review preparedness for the upcoming apple season, and announced the estimation of apple boxes would be conducted using a scientific methodology to ensure accuracy, safeguarding the interests of horticulturists. A horticulturist said the current method of estimation has resulted in errors, mandating a change. Apple farming is a Rs.4,500-crore economy in Himachal and the apple season starts in late June or early July.HTC...
