Higher reaches in Himachal likely to receive rain, snowfall on Jan 6
Dharamshala, Jan. 3 -- The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Shimla office on Friday has predicted light rain and snowfall at isolated places in the higher reaches of the state on January 6. Meanwhile, dry weather is expected to prevail till January 8.
MeT department officials said that the minimum temperatures are very likely to fall by about 2-3 degrees Celsius over many parts of the state during the next 48 hours. Thereafter they are likely to rise gradually by 2-4 degrees.
The maximum temperatures are however likely to rise by about 3-6 degrees over many parts of the state during next 24 hours, thereafter, they are likely to see a further rise in subsequent 3-4 days
Meanwhile, the IMD office said that there is moderate probability (55-65%) that most parts of Himachal are likely to get below normal rainfall from January to March.
However, the weather office outlined that some parts of Lahaul-Spiti district and adjoining Kinnaur district, where there is low probability (35-45%) of normal rainfall during this period.
"There is low to moderate probability that some parts of Himachal (Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kinnaur) are very likely to get normal to below normal rainfall and there is low to moderate probability that remaining parts of the state very likely to get normal rainfall during January," the IMD said.
The weather office also said that there is moderate to high probability that the mean minimum temperatures are very likely to be above normal over most parts of Himachal during January 2026. "There is moderate (45-55%) that the mean maximum temperatures are very likely to be above normal over most parts of Himachal during January 2026," it added.
