Jammu, June 13 -- India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said there are no significant weather patterns to suggest a change in conditions and the heatwave across Jammu and Kashmir is likely to persist till June 14. The heatwave conditions prevailed in six districts of Jammu region, with many places recording temperatures above the season's average. "Due to an absence of any significant weather system, the heatwave is very likely to continue till June 14. However, a slight relief is likely from June 15 to 17," said an IMD official. The official said the monsoon is active over Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Puri and conditions are favourable for its advance into other parts of India. "As far as J&K and Ladakh are concerned, monsoon usually arrives in the last week of June or the first week of July. So, we have to wait for another two to three weeks for monsoon rains," he said. Samba and Jammu city recorded highs of 46.3 and 44.5 degrees Celsius, respectively, 5.7 notches above the season's average on Wednesday. Mercury touched a high of 39.5 degrees Celsius in Katra. According to the IMD, the extreme heat has gripped at least six districts - Samba, Jammu, Kathua, Ramban, Udhampur and Reasi - all reporting temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius....
