Heat relents as rain lashes Valley
Srinagar, May 25 -- After heatwave for more than three days, rains in upper reaches of the Valley brought respite from sweltering heat across Kashmir.
From past three to four days, parts of Kashmir have been reeling under above-normal temperatures.
On Saturday, Srinagar saw a maximum of 27.1 degrees Celsius, which is 2.1 notches above normal, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
On Tuesday, Srinagar had recorded 33.2 degrees Celsius, 7.8 notches above the normal temperature for the day.
On Friday, all weather stations in Kashmir recorded above-normal day temperatures. The ski resort Gulmarg recorded 19 degrees Celsius, 2.1 degrees above normal, on Saturday.
The Kokernag tourist resort saw a maximum of 27.6 degrees Celsius, which is 3.5 degrees above normal. The winter capital, Jammu, saw a high of 38.6 degrees Celsius, which is 0.2 notches above normal.
The IMD's Srinagar office said in its daily bulletin hot weather is likely for two more days and thereafter, brief spells of rainfall is predicted across the Union territory.
"Weather was generally cloudy with intermittent brief spells of rain/thundershower at many places of Kashmir division and scattered places of Jammu division with gusty winds and intense showers at few places," the IMD bulletin said.
The bulletin added that on May 25 and 26, the weather will be generally hot and dry with possibility of brief spell of light rain at isolated places, mainly towards late afternoon. "From May 27 to 3, there is possibility of brief spells of rain and thunderstorms," it added.
The IMD office predicted respite from ongoing hot and dry weather and said a fall in maximum temperature by two to three degrees Celsius at many places is likely soon....
