Dharamshala, June 10 -- Neri in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42.6degC on Monday, as several stations across the hill state reported above-normal temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Shimla office, the average maximum temperature in the state remained above normal on Monday. After Neri, Una recorded the second-highest maximum at 42.4degC, followed by Kangra at 40.4degC. Several popular hill stations, including Dharamshala and Shimla, are witnessing temperatures significantly above normal. On Monday, Dharamshala recorded 35.1degC, which was 2.6degC above normal. In the capital city Shimla, the maximum temperature reached 29degC, 3.2degC above normal. Manali saw the mercury touch 30.5degC, which was 4.2degC above normal, while Mandi registered a maximum temperature 5.6degC above normal. In Bhuntar, located in Kullu district, the temperature was 4.2degC above normal. Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a maximum temperature of 27.9degC, which was 5.5degC above normal, while the mercury touched 26degC in Keylong, Lahaul-Spiti district, marking a rise of 3degC above normal. The MeT department officials said that dry weather is expected to prevail across all districts of the state till June 12. However, light rainfall is likely at isolated places over the state from June 13 to 15. According to IMD, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 2-3 degrees over some parts of the state during next four days. The weather remained dry across Himachal Pradesh over the past 24 hours, with no significant change observed in maximum and minimum temperatures. Kashmir is experiencing a heatwave, second in the past less than a month, with day temperatures going 4-6 degrees above normal. The meteorological centre said that Srinagar in Kashmir recorded a maximum of 33.3degC on Monday, some 5.3 notches above normal. An official of the MeT said that Qazigund, the gateway into South Kashmir, was hottest at 33.6degC, some 6.8 degrees above normal, while Kupwara in North Kashmir recorded 32.5degC, some 4.5deg above normal. "We are going through a heatwave and it will continue till June 13 with hot temperatures persisting in the region," said the official. The MeT said that Jammu region was hotter as the city recorded a maximum of 44.3degC, some 4.7degC above normal. Katra recorded a maximum of 40.2degC, some 4.2deg above normal. The MeT said that there could be some respite from June 14. "From June 14-15, rains are expected over isolated places which may bring down the temperature," the official said. Independent weather spotter, Faizan Arif said that temperatures may soar to 34 - 35degC in Kashmir plains and 45 - 46degC in Jammu plains next week....
