dharamshala/Amritsar, Sept. 10 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a special relief package of Rs 3,100 crore for disaster-hit Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Modi announced the immediate relief during his day-long visit to the two northern states to review the flood situation and assess the damage caused by heavy rain, floods, and landslides. Of the total package, Rs 1,600 crore has been earmarked for Punjab, while Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated for Himachal Pradesh. He also announced Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for the next of kin of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The Prime Minister said the Rs 1,600 crore financial assistance for Punjab is in addition to the Rs 12,000 crore already in the state's kitty. He announced the advance release of the second instalment of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, he said, while stressing the need for a multi-dimensional approach.
