explosion near main gate of imphal airport, no casualties
IMPHAL, May 4 -- A bomb exploded on Sunday in Imphal international airport premises in Manipur's Imphal West district, officials said, adding that the explosion took place close to a Territorial Army camp, located inside the airport premises. No casualties were reported.
Based on a CCTV footage, officials said an unknown individual at around 11.34 am planted the bomb near a crematorium located around 1 km from the main gate of the Territorial Army camp.
Officials said the person was later seen fleeing towards Bishnupur along the Tiddim road in a scooter.
The area has been secured, and the situation remains under close monitoring, officials said, adding that an investigation has been underway. Meanwhile, banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has claimed responsibility of the explosion.
According to a statement, the outfit clarified that it planted one "Smart IED" to protest frequent bandhs, blockades and shutdowns in the state, which have been affecting normal life....
