Excise dept cracks down on illicit liquor trade in HP
Shimla, Aug. 7 -- The taxes and excise department has intensified its efforts to curb the illegal liquor trade across Himachal Pradesh Commissioner Yunus, on Wednesday said that special enforcement drives were being carried out by departmental teams across the state, in addition to district-level taskforces constituted for this purpose.
He said that significant quantities of illicit liquor were seized during inspections in various regions, including district Shimla, Baddi (BBN) and Kullu.
In July alone, 542.930 bulk litres of illicit liquor were seized in the Southern Region (Shimla), 745.350 bulk litres in the Central Region (Mandi) and 221.850 bulk litres in the Northern Region (Palampur) along with 46 litres of lahan.
Yunus further said that a total of 247 cases related to illegal liquor have been registered so far in the current financial year. During these operations, 10,523.668 bulk liters of illicit liquor and 21,630 liters of lahan were seized and destroyed. He emphasised that the department was maintaining a strict vigil on such unlawful activities and is taking firm action as per the law....
