Ex-tehsildar gets one-year jail in 16-yr-old graft case in Srinagar
Srinagar, March 24 -- An anti-corruption Court Srinagar on Monday convicted a former tehsildar to one year of jail in 16-year-old graft case.
The convict Mohammad Akram Khan, was then tehsildar of Chadoora area.
ACB said that special judge anti-corruption Court, Srinagar, Tasleem Arief Ganie, convicted Khan,of Aripal Tral, Pulwama, presently resident of Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar in a bribery case registered.
"The accused, then-serving as Tehsildar, was found guilty under Sections 5(2) read with 5(1)(d) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, and Section 161 Ranbir Penal Code, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.20,000 from the complainant, over the pretext of getting the property dispute settled in his favour. Following a complaint filed on May 13, 2010, a trap was successfully laid by the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (now ACB), during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe," the statement said, adding that after thorough investigation, chargesheet was filed on October 22, 2010, and the case proceeded for judicial determination in the Court.
"On March 23, 2026, the court delivered the judgment, sentencing the accused under Section 5(2) read with 5(1)(d) of J&K PC Act and 161 RPC, of simple imprisonment for one year along with a fine of Rs.20,000/-."...
