Education officer attached over 'controversial' social media order in Baramulla
Srinagar, Oct. 7 -- Days after a senior education officer in Baramulla issued a circular regarding social media use by government employees, the government on Monday attached incharge chief education officer Baramulla.
The officer Bashir Ahmad Shah has been attached to the office of directorate of school education.
An order issued by school education department in this regard reads, "Pending inquiry, Bashir Ahmad Shah, in-charge chief education officer, Baramulla is hereby attached in the directorate of school education Kashmir with immediateeffect.
Further, chief education officer, Bandipora shall hold the charge of the post of chiefeducation office, Baramulla and Principal, DIET Sopore, Baramulla, till further orders."
Further, Joint Director Education (North), Kashmir, has been asked to conduct an inquiry in the matter and submit a report to the administrative department within 15 days.
The attachment order was issued days after the officer had issued a circular about use of social media by the employees of the department which received huge backlash from the political parties especially the PDP that criticised the NC government for order.
PDP legislative party leader Waheed ur Rehman Parra had termed the order akin to silencing the few remaining ones in J&K. "In an already numb J&K, this order by the govt's education dept warning teachers and govt staff against raising their voices, is deeply concerning. A government that came to power on the promise of giving people a voice is now contributing to silencing the few remaining ones in J&K," Parra wrote on X.
Parra said that its pertinent to mention here that the J&K government had earlier informed the assembly that it is drafting a new media policy aimed at regulating digital platforms, including social media and news websites, following the much-criticised 2020 New Media Policy formulated by the BJP, which was widely condemned by journalists, civil society groups & political leaders for its authoritarian undertones. This order must be immediately revoked."...
