Daily Vande Bharat between Jammu, Srinagar from March 1
Jammu/Srinagar, Feb. 25 -- The much awaited direct train between two capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar via Katra is set to start from March 1.
The train was inaugurated by PM Modi last year and used to ply from Srinagar to Katra and vice versa on the daily basis with only 8 coaches, will now have 20 coaches. The direct train service is expected ease passenger travel and will be a major relief to the people during blockade of 250 km long Jammu-Srinagar national highway (NH44) during monsoons and inclement weather, when the highway in Ramban district largely remains affected.
An official said that the train will have seven halts. The train's rake composition has been revised, with the number of coaches increased to 20 from the earlier planned eight to accommodate higher passenger demand.
Senior divisional commercial manager of the Jammu division of northern railway, Uchit Singhal, said, "The Jammu division of northern railway is taking a significant step to modernise passenger services and make travel more accessible. Keeping in mind the increasing demand and convenience of passengers, the railway administration is extending the service of Vande Bharat Train No. 26401/26402 from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Jammu, effective March 1."
"The Vande Bharat train previously operated with eight coaches. However, starting March 1, the train will operate with 20 coaches, providing greater passenger convenience. This will allow more passengers to avail the service of Vande Bharat Train," he added.
Northern railway spokesman Raghvender Singh said, " This will provide a boost to tourism and business activities in the region."
The train will depart from Jammu at 6:15 am and arrive in Srinagar at 11:15am. On the return journey, Vande Bharat Train No. 26402 will depart from Srinagar at 1:40 pm and arrive in Jammu in the evening. Passengers will have to pay Rs.715 for a chair car seat and Rs.1,320 for executive class. For the second train the fare prices are Rs.660 for a chair car seat and Rs.1,270 for executive class.
