Cop throws bribe money in bushes, flees ACB trap
Jammu, June 15 -- A police head constable in Kathua district threw bribe money into bushes and fled the scene to escape a trap laid by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), officials said on Saturday.
According to an official spokesperson, Head Constable Roshan Din, posted at Kathua police station, demanded Rs.25,000 from a complainant to remove his name from an accused list, despite the latter submitting CCTV footage and office attendance records to prove his innocence. After negotiations, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs.15,000. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap. As soon as the constable accepted the bribe, he sensed danger, discarded the money in nearby bushes, and fled. The tainted cash was later recovered in the presence of independent witnesses. Searches were also conducted at the accused's residence under magistrate supervision. Roshan Din is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him, the spokesperson added....
