Centre holding back Himachal's legitimate dues: Cong ministers
Shimla, May 12 -- War of words erupted between the Himachal Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after Congress ministers accused the Centre of allegedly withholding funds they termed as "legitimately due," with the saffron party terming the remarks as "baseless".
Rural development and panchayati raj minister Anirudh Singh, reacting to Prime Minister's comments on Himachal's economy, said, "If the PM genuinely believes Himachal is facing financial distress, then why has the revenue deficit grant been stopped? Why has the Rs.1,500 crore disaster relief package announced for the state not yet been released?"
The minister further accused the Centre of not addressing Himachal's rightful share in Bhakra revenues and
Revenue and horticulture minister Jagat Singh Negi accused the Centre of allegedly discriminating against Opposition-ruled states. "The PM represents the entire country and not only BJP-ruled states. If there is discrimination between Congress-ruled and BJP-ruled states, then it raises serious questions about the federal structure of the Constitution," Negi told reporters.
Hitting back, BJP chief spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal termed the statement made by Anirudh Singh as "unfortunate, insensitive, and driven by political frustration". He said that the very minister who ought to be working on issues concerning state's panchayats, rural development, and village-level problems is instead solely occupied with making rhetorical statements against the PM.
"Congress government and its ministers are currently making baseless remarks against Prime Minister Modi in an attempt to conceal their own failures," Jamwal alleged. The reality is that Himachal's economic situation is continuously deteriorating; development works have come to a complete standstill; schemes at the panchayat level remain stalled, Jamwal said....
