Above normal temps in HP, relief likely from today
Dharamshala, April 24 -- After several days of dry weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, has forecast rain and snowfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh from April 24.
The state has been recording above-normal maximum temperatures over the past few days. Several stations, including Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Kalpa and Mandi, continued to report above-normal temperatures on Thursday.
Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 40.0degC, followed by Kangra at 36.4degC and Sundernagar at 35.8degC. Solan and Dharamshala each recorded a maximum of 33degC, while Shimla registered 27.2degC.
According to the IMD, light rain and snowfall are likely at isolated places on April 24, 26 and 27, while light to moderate precipitation is expected at a few places on April 25, 28 and 29.
The weather office issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in Chamba, Kangra and Kullu districts on April 24, followed by a similar alert in several districts on April 25.
In view of the ongoing landslide mitigation work, the vehicular movement on the Chamba-Bharmour stretch of the National Highway- 154A near Mehla Ghar will be allowed in a regulated manner till May 31, officials said on Thursday.
The order was issued by Chamba deputy commissioner (DC) Mukesh Repaswal. The traffic will be regulated by temporarily halting vehicular movement for 25 to 30 minutes every hour daily from 6am to 6pm, to facilitate the ongoing work, the notice read.
Recurring landslides frequently disrupt traffic on the Chamba-Bharmour highway, which remains a vital link forthe people living in the tribal belt.
According to the order, the decision has been taken based on information provided by the National Highway Division of the public works department, Chamba, and with due consideration for public safety during the ongoing landslide mitigation work....
