375 roads, including 2 NH, still shut in HP
Shimla, Sept. 21 -- As many as 375 roads, including two national highways (NH-03 and NH-503A), remain blocked in Himachal Pradesh, theState Disaster Management Authority (SDMA)said onSaturday.
In wake of cracks in another pillar of the Dwada flyover on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane, the administration had closed the Mandi-Kullu road till 2.30 pm on Saturday to carry out repairs. During this period, all vehicles from Mandi to Kullu via Dwada were stopped. The debris and large rocks had accumulated behind the pillar after repeated landslides had put additional pressure on the structure thus aggravating the damage so the experts have advised immediate repair and debris removal of the pillar.
As per SDMA 43 distribution transformers (DTRs) are disrupted, causing power outages across several districts, while 145 water supply schemes are non-functional on Saturday evening.
This monsoon season, the state has recorded 430 deaths since June 20 according to the SDMA. Of these, 245 people have died in rain-related disasters such as landslides, flash floods, drowning and lightning, while 185 fatalities were reported in road accidents.
Assuring urgent remedial measures for landslide-prone Akhara Bazar and Math area of Kullu, Congress MLA Sunder Singh Thakur on Saturday said that amitigation plan is underway to prevent further landslides in Inner Akhara Bazar and halt land subsidence in Math.
"The government's top priority is to secure the vulnerable 500-metre stretch from Laxmi Narayan Mandir to Jarait, below Sultanpur," said Thakur in a meeting with the residents of the area. He said that multiple departments will be coordinated and modern technologies, including the peer technique, will be employed alongside other protective measures.
The residents of Inner Akhara Bazar submitted a memorandum to the MLA Sunder Singh Thakur in Kullu on Saturday demanding immediate revamp of sewerage and drainage system in the Math area of Kullu.
Thakur had directed the Jal Shakti SDO and instructed urgent repairs to leaking chambers. He also directed a comprehensive evaluation to devise a long-term solution for the drainage and sewerage systems in the Math area.
The meteorological departmentsaid that the conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some parts of Himachal Pradesh during next two to three days.
Though light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places from September 24 to September 26. Dry weather is likely to prevail from September 21 to September 23, 2025 over the state. The met department said that the maximum temperatures are likely to gradually rise by 2-3 degree Celsius during the next three to four days....
