Srinagar, Sept. 26 -- At least 20 people were detained on Thursday as authorities imposed a curfew across Leh following violent clashes that left four dead and nearly 100 injured. The violence erupted on Wednesday, during the 15th day of a hunger strike led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been advocating for statehood and constitutional safeguards for Ladakh. On Thursday, the curfew remained in effect in Leh, though the situation appeared to stabilise with no reports of fresh violence. The ministry of home affairs canceled the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of Wangchuk's NGOs a day after the clashes, citing "provocative statements" that allegedly incited violence. Wangchuk, however, rejected the charges, claiming the government was seeking a scapegoat. "To say it was instigated by me is a way of avoiding addressing the core issues. They are trying to find someone to blame instead of addressing the root causes of the frustration that has led to this situation," Wangchuk said. Full report P2...
