Srinagar, Dec. 4 -- Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified crackdown on illegal mining in central Kashmir and arrested 12 persons while seizing 39 vehicles in the month of November. Officials said that the police in Budgam, in coordination with the Mining Department, intensified its action against illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals across the district during November. They said that police teams from various Police Stations and Police Posts carried out sustained operations in areas including Khansahib, Suranhall Batpora, Beerwah, Narbal, Magam, Hardupanzo, Budgam, Charar-i-Shareif, Waterhail, and Chadoora. "During these operations, 12 individuals involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were arrested on the spot, and 06 FIRs were registered. A total of 39 vehicles used in illegal activities," said a police spokesperson. The seized vehicles comprised 11 tippers and dumpers, 21 tractors, six JCBs, and one L&T machine. "Authorities also imposed heavy fines on violators," the spokesperson said. Police said that it was committed to safeguard natural resources, enforcing mining and environmental laws, and maintaining strict vigil at all vulnerable locations.
