Shimla, Dec. 20 -- In a scathing attack on the Himachal government, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan alleged that the state government's failure, negligence, and lack of commitment are directly responsible for the slow progress of rail projects in Himachal Pradesh. He said that the Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri (63 km) new rail line project has become the biggest example of this. Mahajan said that this project was approved on a cost-sharing basis, with 75% contributed by the central government and 25% by the Himachal Pradesh government. In addition, land acquisition costs exceeding Rs 70 crore are to be borne entirely by the state government. The detailed estimated cost of this project, including land costs, was approved at Rs 6,753 crore. He said, "The project requires 124 hectares of land in Himachal Pradesh, but the Congress government has so far provided only 82 hectares. The remaining land from Bilaspur to Beri has not yet been handed over by the state government, directly impacting the project's progress. Due to the unavailability of land, the project is not being completed on time". Mahajan said that Rs 5252 crore has been spent on the project so far.
