'Heard a deafening sound, saw boulders smashing two sheds'
Jammu, Aug. 28 -- A palanquin owner, Ramesh Singh, who escaped with minor injuries on his chin, recalled the nightmare that unfolded at Ardhkuwari on Tuesday afternoon.
Singh, who had bandaged on his chin and was still in shock of what he saw, said, "We were ferrying pilgrims on our Palki when we heard a deafening blast like sound, it felt like a strong lightning, like a bomb blast. Before we could realise anything, two sheds were hit by boulders and debris and the pilgrims present in them caught in it."
Within a fraction of three to four seconds, the landslide swept away the two sheds, he added. Singh recalled that 35 to 40 pilgrims were buried under the debris. "It was frightening. A huge gush of water, debris, boulders and slush was there. My chin was hurt and was bleeding profusely," he said.
The pilgrim in our Palki jumped out and ran to safety, he added.
He informed that his three co-workers retrieved four bodies from the debris.
"I saw a man aged around 40, whose both legs were severely injured. He was bleeding profusely," he added....
